Hillary Clinton has found the perfect stage.

The Democratic presidential candidate sat down with Zach Galifianakis, who hosts Funny or Die’s segment “Between Two Ferns.” Like other episodes, Galifianakis sat down between two ferns with Clinton, but began it a little differently. As Clinton asked someone off screen “Where is he? Where is Zach?” Galifianakis creeps into the frame wearing a grim reaper mask and is immediately thrown down by Secret Service.

“Not a good idea around the Secret Service,” Clinton said. “Are you OK?”

Clinton’s humor fits the setting of “Between Two Ferns” well, with her calculated silences and pursed lips hiding a smile. She delivers her answers to Galifianakis with gravity and thinly veiled amusement; when he asked to meet her pantsuit creator because he wants to be a librarian from outer space for Halloween, she said, “I think that would be a good look on you.” Though critics have pointed to her stilted demeanor, her subtle humor is evident in this “Between Two Ferns” interview. The audience also overlaps with the demographic she seeks to connect with, and for whom she reserved $30 million in digital advertisements.
