The guys of comedy trio The Lonely Island made their way to Austin on Friday to promote “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” spending the day with radio station KLBJ, the guys over at Rooster Teeth and some lucky UT students.
“Popstar,” which will be released June 3, is a comedy written, produced by and starring Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer and Andy Samberg. It follows the story of Connor, a rapper whose album bombs and is forced to re-form his old boy band. Tonight, the film will be screened at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar to UT students only.
The group started off the day at radio station 93.7 KLBJ where they talked about the numerous cameos in “Popstar” and Samberg’s haters.
“We’re producers so we’d sit in the theater and people don’t know we’re in there,” he said. “And there’s always one dude that says ‘I’ve got to say, I just don’t like Andy Samberg.”
Then, they made their way over to production company Rooster Teeth, whose Twitter account posted a few photos from their session together. Apparently, they broke a table together.
The trio’s last stop before their screening is Good JuJu Cafe in West Campus, where Universal Pictures UT Austin organized a meet and greet for the first 100 students to line-up outside by 11 a.m.
So far, there haven’t been too many posts online about how the meet and greet went. We’ve heard Good JuJu Cafe was playing “Dick in a Box,” though.
Remember, everyone: Never stop never stopping.
