According to reports, it’s no longer say goodbye to One Direction temporarily, but say goodbye forever. Although Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall (Zayn who?) all ensured fans that their break from super-popstardom was only temporary, a source close to the band is reporting that the boys have decided it’s time to go in More Than One Direction. “The 1D thing just ran its course. They’ll remain friends, but they are exhausted and want solo careers.” Since when is 1D more about what its members want than what thousands of crying girls want?
Some really tall Austinite paid homage to recently passed legend David Bowie when they ch-ch-changed the name on the Bowie Street sign near Fifth Street. The sign now reads “David Bowie.” Although the sign is located near South By Southwest’s offices in Downtown Austin, no one has yet claimed responsibility for the mini memorial. City officials confirmed that they did not sanction the sign change, but announced that they would leave it up till Jan. 19.
Tiff’s Treats will share its cookies out-of-state for the first time when it opens its first non-Texas store later this summer. The exact location has not yet been announced. Additionally, Tiff’s will expand by adding three new Texas stores in Cedar Park, Houston and San Antonio. “As long as more people want more of our cookies, we’ll keep opening up new stores,” said Tiff’s Treats co-founder Leon Chen.
Austin’s Explosions in the Sky will bring another wave of its epic instrumental guitar rock with its new album “The Wilderness,” announced Monday and due out April 1. The band hasn’t released a new album since “Take Care, Take Care, Take Care” five years ago. You can read a profile on the band, which has been making music for about 15 years, here.
You’ll have a couple of opportunities to catch Richard Linklater’s muse actor Ethan Hawke (who starred in all three of Linklater’s “Before” movies and his epic “Boyhood”) in Austin in February. On Feb. 17 Hawke will discuss the making of his upcoming film “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead,” after the Austin Film Society’s special screening. The next night he will be a featured guest at AFS Artist Spotlight where he will discuss working with Linklater.
