5 Lunchtime Links: Jester King expansion

(Arianna Auber)

1. Jester King Brewery plans major expansion.

Jester King plans to put all that gorgeous land (and an additional newly purchased 58 acres) to use when it begins farming and grape growing this spring. The beloved, very craft-y brewery has announced it will take a shot at winemaking using the grapes grown on its very own orchard. If their wine is anything like their beer, it’s a little tart and you’ll have to line up and get a stamp before you can taste it. “We seek to create a location where virtually everything we make comes from the land around us,” founder Jeffrey Stuffings said.

2. Sia releases new single produced by Kanye.

Kanye West and Sia have teamed up, meaning twice as much weird-music-genius, but hopefully still just the one wig. The two released a new co-written, co-produced single “Reaper” performed by Sia yesterday. Sia’s new album “This is Acting” is set to debut Jan. 29. You can listen to the single here.

3. Three new movies from Austin directors top early 2016 releases.

Moviegoers can look forward to three films from Austin directors early this year. Terrence Malick, Richard Linklater and Jeff Nichols are all set for releases before May. In what promises to be a good month for movies, Charlie Kaufman’s highly-anticipated puppet tale, “Anomalisa,” and László Nemes’ Holocaust drama “Son of Saul” are a couple of Oscar contenders set for a January release in Austin.

4. Could Emma Stone be the new Cruella de Vil?

Doesn’t the sweet face of actress Emma Stone remind you of a puppy killer? Stone is reportedly in talks to play the stylish villain, Cruella de Vil, in an upcoming remake of Disney’s “101 Dalmatians.” Is it just the red hair that has fans thinking she’d make a great Cruella? The movie, rumored to be a “prequel origin story,” will no doubt require a little more edge.

5. Dallas’ best pizza to come to Austin.

A little slice of Dallas will make its way into the mouths’ of Austin pizza lovers when Cane Rosso debuts in the 512. The pizza restaurant has been named the best pizza in Dallas five years in a row by D magazine. Cane Rosso will occupy the location of the late St. Philip Pizza Parlor and Bake Shop. “We promise not to ‘Dallas your Austin … but we are gonna start bottle service and everyone will drive leased BMWs,” owner Jay Jerrier ensures.
