1. Obama names favorite song of 2015.

As if you needed another reason to listen to Kendrick Lamar’s album “To Pimp a Butterfly,” the President of the United States has stepped in to offer his formal recommendation. President Obama named Lamar’s song “How Much A Dollar Cost” as his favorite song of 2015. The rapper received 11 Grammy nominations this week, the most of any artist. And First Lady Michelle Obama? She went for “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. The couple listed off a few other favorites in their People magazine interview including movies and books.

2. Alamo Drafthouse releases “Star Wars”-themed menu for movie premiere.

Did you think you’re viewing of the “Star Wars: The Forces Awakens” was going to be devoid of on-theme food accompaniments? Alamo Drafthouse has released a menu that is sure to set your stomach at ease. The theater’s “Star Wars”-themed menu will include a Gold Membrosia cocktail and a crêpe no Wookie could possibly resist.

3. Austin native among this season’s “Bachelor” contestants.

23-year-old Olivia Caridi will represent the 512 when she competes for a man’s attention, fame and a coveted rose during this season of the “Bachelor.” A TCU graduate, Caridi worked as a newscaster at WCYB-TV in Bristol, Va. Although Caridi is the only Austin-native she’ll have plenty of Texas competition to outshine. Other contestants include a Dallas real estate developer and a math teacher from Houston.

4. New Waterloo to open French brasserie and bakery downtown.

The company behind two of Austin’s favorite restaurants, Sway and La Condesa, is venturing into the exciting world of French cuisine. New Waterloo will open French brasserie and bakery Chez Nada next year on the ground level of the Northshore high-rise building. The restaurant will serve regional French classics and Franco-American favorites and feature a full bar.

5. Santa Claus gets a fashion makeover.

Santa Claus is looking a little different these days. A Canadian mall Santa, who sports a fitter physique and wears a lot more black, has people requesting which Santa they’d like to visit their house. “Fashion Santa” is actually model Paul Mason who is ready to pose for pictures and hear your list at the Yorkdale shopping center.
