Weird Al Yankovic and familiar Austinites create hilarious sports spoof

The guy who brought you the comedic musical hits “Like a Surgeon” and “Eat It” back in the day joined forces with some of Austin’s best for a great take on the cliches of post-game press conferences of sporting events.

The clip, aptly titled “Every Press Conference Ever (ft. Weird Al Yankovic)” was made for The Kicker, a site of funny sports content from the comedy site Above Average. Weird Al Yankovic stars as the “Grizzled Coach,” looking alarmingly like a twin to Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. Alongside him are Jason Small as “Star Player” and Austin comedic actor Kirk Johnson as “Bench Player.”

The Austinite cameos don’t end there, as the host of “ATX Uncensored-ish” (and former American-Statesman reporter) Brian Gaar identifies himself as the “sad reporter, sports section, local paper” trying to get a handle on the emotions that come with loving the team. KVUE’s Kris Betts tackles women in sports media as the “Attractive female, sideline reporter, major sports network” asking if the coach would show her the same respect as the men in the room.

Rooster Teeth, a production company with an Austin presence, shared two of its own in the sketch. Gavin Free is a “young male blogger,” looking to take a quote out of context and Burnie Burns is every fan that’s ever known what the coach should have done as the “obnoxious reporter, some east coast paper.”

Local comedian John Ramsey and Ryan Darbonne of the Austin Film Festival play the bickering sports broadcasters with director David Ward in the production room.
