Actress Meryl Streep and upcoming “Suffragette” co-stars were met with major backlash after being photographed wearing T-shirts reading, “I’d rather be a rebel than a slave.” The quote, taken from a speech given by women’s rights activist Emmeline Pankhurst in 1913, struck a chord with Twitter users who called the shirt racially insensitive and offensive. This is the second bout of criticism Streep has received this week after she referred to herself as a “humanist” instead of a feminist in the same interview.
The owners of North Loop bar Drink.Well, Jessica and Michael Sanders, hope to have their second bar, to be called Backbeat, opened by the end of this year. The two-story cocktail bar, next door to Ramen Tatsu-Ya on South Lamar, is expected to fill a niche in the area. “That part of town has so many fantastic restaurants but no standalone cocktail bars,” Jessica Sanders said. Or at least not yet.

Is your car no better than a cardboard box with wheels? Thanks to Lexus, that could really be saying something. The company recently built a full-size model of its IS saloon entirely out of cardboard — 1,700 sheets to be exact. While the car drives, it’s not strong enough to support passengers and is instead driven via an electric motor. This might be the first time we hear “No drinks in the car,” and don’t roll our eyes.
