Remember when Ello was cool? It’s ok, neither does anyone else.
Take a minute to go dust off your profile though, because the ad-free social network will be hitting iPhones everywhere this month.
Ello was originally created as a cleaner, more private alternative to social media – essentially an anti-Facebook. The minimalist network debuted in March 2014, promising users they would never show advertisements and never sell their information to advertisers. The site also does not require users to list their real names.
In September, Ello became the fastest-growing social network in history within a few hours. The hype has died down since then, but the impending iOS launch promises “dozens of new features including real-time alerts and new ways to find your friends,” so there may be hope yet for the platform.
“The Ello app is the best way to be inspired and share what matters most,” the network wrote in a recent email. Will this release give Ello staying power in the realm of social media, or will we all forget about after a week or two? We can all see for ourselves June 18 when Ello hits the Apple App Store.
