The latest meme to hit the internet is, of all things, coleslaw. The mix of cabbage, carrots, mayo and sour cream is a popular summer salad, but a Tumblr post gone viral has begun to separate the lovers from the haters.

A text post made June 6 by Tumblr user ammit420 has been identified as the first known mention of coleslaw on the blogging site, and is suspected to have started the internet debate.

Since then, the side dish has reached meme status, with members on both sides of the plate defending their position.

Things have gotten so heated that a petition to outlaw coleslaw in the U.S. has been started on change.org.
